The Machine Gun Jetpack is a recurring jetpack that appears in most games from the Barry Steakfries series as the default jetpack. It is constructed from two M61 Vulcan miniguns and operates by shooting machine gun rounds out of them into the ground. A small ammo box containing a belt of bullets is mounted on top of the jetpack and continuously feeds ammo into the two machine guns.

History[]

Monster Dash[]

The Machine Gun Jetpack (referred to as Machinegun Jetpack in the game's 2010 version) first appeared in Monster Dash as one of the weapons that can be found in the weapon crates. The weapon fires machine gun bullets below, and can only hurt monsters if they are directly below. The weapon also lets Barry hover, and can be used to fly past obstacles. Unlike in any other appearance, the Machine Gun Jetpack has a limited use; upon running out of 120 ammunition, the jetpack disappears.

In the 2014 and 2020 versions of the game, the Machine Gun Jetpack and Bad As Hog were the only two weapons that could be picked from the crates. However, a few missions have the weapon equipped automatically, and with unlimited ammo, due to the lack of landing ground in those levels. Additionally, the ammunition number can be slightly increased by leveling Barry up.

In the 2020 remaster of the game, the jetpack was slightly redesigned to be smaller in size. The ammo box and bullet belts are also completely absent.

The Machine Gun Jetpack is the default jetpack in Jetpack Joyride, available from the start. Design-wise, the jetpack looks similar to its original appearance in Monster Dash.

The launch pad for this jetpack is a vertical rod that attaches to the back of the jetpack and metal slots that the machine gun barrels fit into.

Jetpack Joyride 2[]

The Machine Gun Jetpack reappears in Jetpack Joyride 2 as the default jetpack, titled Machine Gun in-game. It is largely unchanged from its appearance in Jetpack Joyride, playing and functioning the same way it did in the original.

Trivia[]

  • The name of the jetpack was also the working title of the game itself before being published as Jetpack Joyride.
    • During development, the jetpack also disintegrated scientists instead of simply KO-ing them. This ability would later be given to the Phaser Jetpack.
  • This is one of four jetpacks (the others being the Shark Head Jetpack, Rainbow Jetpack and Fruit Jetpack) to have a gold variant, in this case the Gold Platinum MGJP.
  • The Machine Gun Jetpack appears in Dan The Man as an attack for Barry Steakfries, for when he does an uppercut.
    • The jetpack also appears in the Jetpack Joyride Event in collaboration with the game at the end of Sector 1-S.
